Ranjit Kumar Dutta Memorial Lecture on Leadership

This endowment will be used to organize the Ranjit Kumar Dutta Memorial Leadership Lecture Series every year.It will be organized by the Centre to commemorate the memory of Late Ranjit Kumar Dutta. Eminent persons, both from the academia and the industry will give a lecture on different facets of leadership as part of the Leadership Lecture. It has been instituted by Mr. Saumendra Kumar Barua by creating an endowment of ₹ 10,00,000/- (Rupees Ten Lakhs) only. This is the single largest endowment instituted in Dibrugarh University till date.

An advisory committee guides the orgainizing of the event which inlcudes Mr. Saumedra Kumar Barua (or his representative), the Chairperson of the Centre, the Registrar, Dibrugarh University and two/three faculty members from the Centre. Dr. Himadri Barman is currently the nodal officer of the event.

Ranjit Kumar Dutta was a former Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Oil India Limited. He was the CMD when OIL sanctioned 36 million INR for the construction of the CMS Academic Block and the Maniram Dewan Boys' Hostel at Dibrugarh University. As CMD of OIL, he successfully reversed the declining trend in crude production and made it one of the best performing PSUs. An authority of the hydrocarbon sector in India, he was also the first MD of Numaligarh Refinery Limited. He was credited with the modernization of Digboi Refinery as well as IOCL AOD's foray into LPG marketing.

Academically being a brilliant student, Late Dutta graduated with honours in History from the renowned St Stephen's College, Delhi University where he was awarded the prestigious Bishop Westcott Memorial prize for the best under graduate history student of the College. Subsequently, he did his post-graduation in Marketing and Sales Management from the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University. He was born to the accomplished family of Late Justice Sarat Kumar Dutta and Late Amiya Dutta on October 18, 1946 in Dibrugarh, Assam, India. He breathed his last on May 19, 2021 at Kolkata.
