The CMS Computer Laboratory, christened the Computing Unit (CU) has all its machines based on the Intel® Core™2 Duo class processors (2 GB RAM) with all necessary software required for smooth conduct of the curricula. The Unit currently has 30 clients along with one 2008 Windows Server. All machines are connected to the Internet. The entire CMS Block is wi-fi enabled with three access points. The Unit is directly under the System Administrator of the Centre but day-to-day activities are looked after by the Computing Unit Assistant. Currently, the Computing Unit Assistant is Mr. Jamal Hussain, PhD Reserach Scholar at the Centre. The Unit is open from 0930 to 1730 Hrs on week days and also on weekends as per requirements.
The Computing Unit houses the SystemX, the Software Development Group (SDG), which is responsible for developing software / systems as per the requirements of the Centre. The SDG is headed by Dr. Himadri Barman. It also develops and maintains the cmsdu.org domain and various sub-domains under it. There is a totally functional intranet for use by the CMS community. The CMS intranet maintained by the SDG can be accessed over the Dibrugarh University LAN using the private IP 10.100.10.253. The CMS intranet is the only functional intranet operated by a Department/Centre in the entire Dibrugarh University Campus. The CMS LAN can be viewed here.
Clients in the Computing Unit have Windows 7 Professional installed. Office Automation Software like MS Office, Open Office, Developing Environments like Visual Studio, Statistical Packages like SPSS, Compilers for C/C++, Image Processing Software like Photoshop, Corel Draw, etc.are available. Power Back-up is provided via a 10KVA Online UPS. Students can avail of various services like printing, etc. by paying nominal rates.
