Bhubaneswar Barman Memorial Award

The award is presented to the topper amongst girls of the MBA (FT) programme run at the Centre. It carries an amount of ₹ 10,000/- (Rupees ten thousand) only, a trophy and a certificate. It has been instituted by Dr. Himadri Barman in the name of his father, Late Bhubaneswar Barman by creating an endowment of ₹ 1,30,000/- (Rupees One Lakh Thirty Thousand) only.

Bhubaneswar Barman was born on November 1, 1938 at Village Mohkhali in the Nalbari District of Assam. He moved to Guwahati in the mid - 60s and plunged into business. He went on to become a first class contractor with the Assam Government as well as Guwahati Refinery. He was associated with a host of political and social bodies including the RSS, VHP and BJP. He was a North East Vice President of VHP besides being the President / General Secretary of various BJP units at Guwahati. The BJP fielded him as a party candidate in the Guwahati Municipal Corporation Elections in 2003 from Ward No. 48 which he narrowly lost by 13 votes. He contributed to the growth of the greater Noonmati area in Guwahati as the General Secretary of New Guwahati Anchalik Unnayan Samiti, Noonmati Namghar and Guwahati Refinery Contractors Association for a number of terms. He left this mortal world on December 20, 2011.
