The 2018 edition of Rhapsody was organized by the MBA (FT) 2018 Batch students on November 10, 2018 on the topic, Telecom Infrastructure and Applications in PSUs. Rhapsody is organized by the first semester MBA (FT) students as part of their requirements for the course titled Computer Applications in Management. The resource person was Mr. Chandan Baruah, Chief Manager (Telecom), Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL), Dibrugarh. With 15 years of experience in both the public and private sector, he has handled implementation of Intercom Network, LAN/WAN, SDH, GSM Roll Out, Optical Fiber Network, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), Process & Security Surveillance System, VHF Network set up, P2P RF Communication set up etc.
The opening remarks were given by Dr. Himadri Barman, Assistant Professor, CMSDU wherein he congratulated the students for organizing the event and explained how the students will be benefitted. The Chairperson, Prof. Ajanta B Rajkonwar then gave a speech welcoming Mr. Chandan Baruah to the Centre and appreciated Dr. Himadri Barman for the initiative taken to organize the event by the students. She talked about the emerging technologies by sharing an incident from her recent visit to the USA where she was guided by Google's Alexa.
Mr. Baruah gave a complete overview of the topic and also gave a ringside view of the same in the context of BCPL. He also talked about some emerging fields like 5G, Internet of Things (IOT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). He answered many questions from the students at the end of the event. When answering a question, he mentioned that during the period of project implementation, a sum of ₹ 15.75 crores was spent on the telecom infrastructure by BCPL. The maintenance cost of the telecome infrastructure at BCPL is ₹ 4 – 5 lacs per month. The major vendors of BCPL for telecom infrastructure are M/S Honeywell Automation Limited, M/S Indicom and M/S Flipcom Limited.
