The Centre observed the World Tourism Day on September 27, 2018 with serious discussions, interactions and fun. The theme for this year was Tourism and the Digital Transformation and was centrally observed at Budapest, Hungary. The Chief Guest for the WTD, 2018 at CMSDU was Mr. Chandan Nath, a well known tour operator and trainer from Guwahati, Assam. He runs CN Travels and Centre for Tourism Studies (CTS) at Guwahati. He talked about his expereinces in the tourism industry and the increasing use of digital technlogy in the sector in his address. Later on he interacted with the srudents as part of a technical session wherein he answered queries on job opportunties and the help he can provide to students in matters of mentorship and training. Dr. Pratim Barua, Dr. Himadri Barman and Mr. V K Verma also addressed the students in the inaugural programme.
The Centre organized a quiz competition among the students of the Centre a day earlier on September 26, 2018 and also a photography competition for the university students. On the morning of September 27, 2018, a cycle rally was organized. All of these events saw decent participation. A cultural programme was also organized as part of the WTD showcasing the culture of Assam.
It is to be mentioned that the Centre has upgraded its Post Graduate Diploma in Toursim Management (PGDTM) Programme to a MTTM Programme from this year and 25 students have been admitted. The MTTM (Masters in Travel and Tourism Management) Progarmme will be modular in the sense that students can opt out after the first year of study with a PG Diploma in Toursim Management. A new faculty for Tourism has also been recruited. The PGDTM Programme was launched in 2006 and since then 104 students have obtained their PG diploma.
