The Centre celebrated its 16th Foundation Day on the 3rd of February, 2018 in the presence of the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University, Prof. Alak Kumar Buragohain, students, teachers, staff and the alumni. The Centre's flag was hoisted by Prof. Buragohain followed by the Centre's theme song. The formal meeting was held in the newly built auditorium of the Centre. The welcome speech was given by the Chairperson i/c Dr. Pratim Barua who recounted the history of the Centre from the beginning till the present times. He said that he has been with the Centre from day one being the first faculty member to be recruited. He specifically thanked the people who contributed towards the Centre in many ways including the founder Director, Prof. Pranjal Bezborah, the then Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kulendu Pathak, Mr. B P Bakshi, Mr. Manoj Jalan, etc. He also thanked Mr. Ranjit Dutta who was the Managing Director of Oil India Limited when OIL had decided to contribute around 3.7 crore rupees to develop the infrastructure of the Centre including the present building.
Prof. Buragohain in his speech appreciated the Centre for observing the day. He mentioned that management is about love and the people present have demonstrated their love towards the Centre which is crucial for the development of the Centre. He talked a lot about the ancient knowledge base of India and the way it can contribute towards the modern management discipline. He was of the view that people who have contributed towards the growth and development of the Centre must be remembered through various ways because their contribution has to be recognized and the recognition is thoroughly deserved by the people concerned.
Mr. Abdul Rakib, the president of Samannay - the CMSDU Alumni Association also spoke and recollected his association with the Centre. He announced that the Association will donate books worth rupees fifteen thousand to the CMS Library - LIRU. He also declared that the Association will provide some help to the contractual fourth grade staff of the Centre. Mr. Ranjan Sarmah and Mr. Sagar Prasad Dutt, ex-students of the Centre also spoke.
On behalf of the students, Ms. Priyanka Lohia of the MBA (FT) 2016 Batch shared her thoughts. There were performances by Mr. Biswadeep Gogoi (BBA 2016 Batch), Ms. Nomita Gogoi (BBA 2017 Batch), Mr. Pinku Phukan (PGDTM 2017 Batch) and Mr. Rahul Saha (MBAFT 2017 Batch) who enthralled the audience with their songs. Rahul was accompanied on the Guitar by Mir Saeed Anjum Bora, his batchmate. Ms. Sweety Payeng of the BBA 2017 Batch who is a stand-up comedian had the audience in bouts of laughter through her act. Alpona Kalita, Monalisa Das, Moonmi Boruah, Nandini Vijay Saikia and Suruj Banti Baruah of the MBA (FT) 2017 Batch performed a Bihu Dance. Mr. Abdul Rakib recited a poem written by Syed Abdul Malik.
Dr. Himadri Barman, the senior most faculty member of the Centre after Dr. Pratim Barua anchored the celebrations and offered the vote of thanks. Light refreshments were served at the end.
