Samannay - the CMSDU Alumni Association in a pioneering move has instituted an Endowment for the Library of CMSDU. The Library of CMSDU is called the Learning and Information Resources' Unit (LIRU) and the endowment has been named as the Samannay Endowment Fund for LIRU, CMSDU. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed on June 20, 2023. The Endowment is worth ₹ 1,50,000/- (Rupees One Lakh Fifty Thousand) only. The yearly interests on this amount will be spent on buying books for LIRU. The Endowment was instituted as per a decision of the Association in its Annual General Meeting held on November 6, 2022.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Paramananda Sonowal, Registrar i/c, Dibrugarh University and Dr. Himadri Barman, General Secretary, Samannay in presence of the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University, Prof. Jiten Hazarika and the Chairperson of CMSDU, Prof. Pratim Barua. Other faculty members and alumni were also present along with Prof. Neeta Kalita Barua, President, Dibrugarh University Alumni Association. The signing ceremony was held at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University. The Vice Chancellor and the Registrar i/c commended the association for the initiative and hoped that the association would do much more in the days ahead for the Centre.
Samannay is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. Samannay was formed in 2006 and it has been regularly organizing the Alumni Meet besides hosting other events in collaboration with the Centre. It also brings out an annual alumni magazine called Exposé. The association with its own Web Portal (https://samannay.net) is trying not only to keep the alumni of the Centre in touch with each other but also doing its bit to help the Centre to be in a path of growth and development. It is worth mentioning that as on the last week of June 2023, Samannay had 710 life members which is more than 45% of the total alumni count of the Centre standing at 1575.
The association is planning to create more such endowments in the coming days. It is also in talks with some of the alumni to look at the feasibility of creating endowments directly through them. The endowments can go a long way in supporting the growth of the Centre and increasing its stature.
