A week long value-added course “Management By Doing (MBD)” was held from 25th to 30th December 2017 at the Centre for the MBA (FT) 2016 Batch students who had just appeared for their third semester examinations. The business simulation course was conducted by Prof. (Dr.) Ashok N Ullal, who is Professor Emeritus and former Dean of the School of International Business, Reutlingen University, Germany, where he taught courses in Information Technology, Business Simulations and Intercultural Communication and Negotiation. The School of International Business (now merged into the ESB Business School) and its undergraduate and MBA programs are usually ranked in the top five business schools and programs in Germany. He has been responsible for designing and developing business simulation iBizSim for more than three decades. He has taught courses using his business simulation at many universities and business schools in the USA, across Europe in Germany, France, the UK, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Russia, Poland, Hungary and Romania, and in India.
The value added course was a hands-on, learning-by-doing course in which the students were required to apply all what they had learned in all their management classes. The course also showed how the different functional areas of a manufacturing company interact with one another, so that the students get an integrated view of a company. The course was structured in four different pahses - the learning phase, the strategic planning phase, the doing phase and the reflection phase.
All together 28 students were issued the course completion certificate. The students in their feedback have said that the course benefitted them immensely and more course of similar nature shoudl be held. The Centre based on the student feedback has contemplated to train its teachers in conducting such simulation courses with the help of Dr. Ullah.
