Centre for Management Studies, Dibrugarh University hosted the inaugural Ranjit Kumar Dutta Leadership Lecture on March 14, 2022 at Rangghar – the Dibrugarh University Auditorium attended by a galaxy of people from the oil and petroleum industry along with teachers and students from the University. In his keynote address, Mr. M S Rao, former Chief Secretary of Meghalaya recalled his association with Dibrugarh as the Deputy Commissioner and the tough times that he faced in the late nineties. He dwelt on leadership in a crisis situation and shared that B-schools of today should make their graduates e-savvy. The Chief Guest, Mr. Manoj Jain, CMD, GAIL (India) Limited also recalled his stay at Dibrugarh being on deputation to Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited. He talked about the uncertain times of today and the kind of leadership that may handle these tough situations.
Earlier, the Chairperson of the Centre,Prof. Kumud Chandra Goswami gave the welcome address and gave a brief overview of the programmes the Centre offers and how the industry can take benefit of the human resource created and nurtured by the Centre. He also thanked the donor of the Ranjit Kumar Dutta Memorial Leadership Lecture Series Endowment, Mr. S K Barua. Prof. L K Nath, the Vice Chancellor in-charge of the University in his inaugural address recalled the contributions of late Ranjit Kumar Dutta to the University in general and Centre for Management Studies, Dibrugarh University in particular. He appreciated the initiative taken to organize the yearly leadership lecture.
In the programme, the Bhubaneswar Barman Memorial Award 2020 was also presented to Ms. Debjani Deb. The Award is given to the topper amongst girls of the MBA (FT) programme at the Centre. It comprises of a trophy, a Certificate and an amount of ten thousand rupees. The Vote of Thanks was given by Mr. S K Barua, former MD of Numaligarh Refinery Limited. A host of dignitaries were present in the programme including MD of Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited, Mr. Reep Hazarika; MD of Numaligarh Refinery Limited, Mr. Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan; MD of Assam Gas Company Limited, Mr. Gokul Chandra Swargiyari, and the Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh, Mr. Biswajit Pegu. Founder Director-in-charge of the Centre, Prof. Pranjal Bezborah and the Registrar of Dibrugarh University, Prof. Jiten Hazarika were also present.The Ranjit Kumar Dutta will be an annual event and corporate leaders from various entities will be invited to share their thoughts and experiences to benefit the student community at large.
