The Centre organized an online interactive programme called The Leadership Talk on June 5, 2021. The resource persons invited were Mr. Pradeep Kakoti, Deputy General Manager, Apeejay Tea and Lt. Col. Shankar Das of the Indian Army. With three decades of experience in the tea sector, Mr. Kakoti who was the speaker of the first session talked about leadership from the perspective of the tea industry. An alumnus of Assam Agricultural University (AAU), he said that the concept of leadership has changed over the years and management of the tea industry is also coming to terms with the changes, especially in the area of man management.
Lt. Col. Das, the speaker of the second session, who has been with the Indian Army for a decade and a half talked about leadership from the perspective of a soldier. It is to be mentioned that Lt. Col. Das is also a trained commando of the National Security Guards (NSG). He was very categorical that for a leader, emotions have no role to play in crisis situations.
Both the speakers emphasized the fact that the leadership lessons they discussed can be of immense help to budding managers. They enthralled the listeners by going down memory lane and through reminiscence of various incidents which tested their resolve and leadership skills. They took various questions from the audience and gave candid answers. Mr. Kakoti and Lt. Col. Das also talked about life in general in their respective professions and gave insights about their chosen professions. The talk was moderated by Mr. Pransu Raj Kaushik, Assistant Professor, CMSDU. Before the talks by the speakers and also after the end of their interactions, Prof. Kumud Chandra Goswami, Chairperson, CMSDU shared his views and opinions. The invited speakers thanked the Centre for the invitation and the opportunity to interact with the students. Both the sessions were streamed lived on the YouTube channel of the Centre.
