Computing Unit

The CMS Computer Laboratory, christened the Computing Unit currently has all its machines based on the Pentium4 processor with all necessary software required for smooth conduct of the curricula. The Unit currently has 11 machines and is currently housed in the Sociology Block of the University. The Unit is directly under the System Administrator of the Centre but day-to-day activities are looked after by the Computing Unit Assistant. The Unit is open from 0900 to 1800 Hrs on week days and 0900 to 1400 Hrs on weekends
The Computing Unit has all its machines in a domain-based Local Area Network (LAN). The main Server is on a Windows 2003 Server platform along with a supporting Linux Server. Clients have Windows XP Professional installed. Office Automation Software like MS Office, Open Office, Developing Environments like Visual Studio, Statistical Packages like SPSS, Compilers for C/C++, Image Processing Software like Photoshop, Corel Draw, etc.are available. Students can avail of various services like printing etc. by paying nominal rates.
The Computing Unit houses the Software Development Group (SDG), which is responsible for developing software as per the requirements of the Centre. It also develops and maintains the cmsdu.org domain and various sub-domains under it.
